"Minister of Stuff" As a seminarian, I studied Christian Education and Media Communication. My fellow students didn't quite know how to pigeonhole me, so I was dubbed "Minister of Stuff." It was to prove a prophetic nickname. I have ministered as a Pastor, Minister of Education, Minister of Music, Hospital Chaplain, Writer, Multimedia Producer, Designer, Artist, Webmaster, and even, briefly, Mobile C-Band Terrestrial Earth Station Operator for a missions support and publishing agency. Today, my ministries are as eclectic as ever. Ordained in the Baptist tradition, I describe myself as a "Sacramental Baptist" with a growing ecumenical awareness. I am a member of The Order of Saint Luke, a dispersed religious community with ties to the United Methodist Church. I am responsible for the Order's web site (www.saint-luke.org), and I will be taking life vows this October. I serve in several capacities at Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I am a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, church musician, and newsletter columnist. I also serve in the completely ironic position of Chair of the "Community Building Committee," which is responsible for "building community" through fellowship and recreation activities. (It's ironic because I am painfully shy, have a pathological dread of social events, and am the quintessential "loner." My idea of a vacation is for my family to go to the beach while I stay home and read. Yes, God has a sense of humor.) |
